Mathieu Gaudet

Originally from the Laurentians, Mathieu Gaudet is a painter and sculptor; he lives and works in Montreal. His general education is characterized by free choice, even though he studied visual arts at Cégep and subsequently at Concordia University. His early years were focused on drawing, which later evolved into painting during his university studies. During this time, an extended stay in New York proved to be a turning point; he regularly visited various museums and immersed himself in the practices and ideas of postmodernism circulating in art galleries and experimental centers. Installative sculpture, often infused with painting, emerged as a vehicle for experience in his work.

His work has been featured in both group and solo exhibitions in Quebec, Canada, France, and Japan. His pieces are part of both public and private collections. He is represented in Montreal by Galeries Bellemare Lambert. In the winter of 2017, Galeries Bellemare Lambert held a solo exhibition of the artist, where drawing was used as a prelude to a departure from sculpture. – Richard Gagnier
